About the Accommodation |
|
Three miles from Carrigart is Downings, a pleasant resort that commands a superb view of the Ards Peninsula and has a good sandy beach. The hand-woven tweed for which Donegal is famous may be inspected at the McNutts factory near-by.
You can reach out and touch the incredible Panorama of bay, beaches, mountains and coves which unfolds from the conservatory/dining-room of Coastguard Holiday Cottages. Here is a view over Sheephaven Bay worthy of a long, lingering meal, where the changing light washes over the Atlantic waters and mountains creating and recreating exciting visual patterns of great beauty.
Downings is a picturesque fishing port, famous for the production of traditional Donegal tweed. Rosapenna 18-hole championship golf links lies beside the cottages, while nearby Carrigart has a Magnificent links course and equestrian centre.
Established 1895, Rosapenna boasts a wonderfully old fashioned links, being laid out around the turn of the century by three of the greatest names in the history of golf. It enjoys a perfect situation too, neatly wedged between Sheephaven Bay and Mulroy Bay. For ten holes the course runs adjacent to the former, before meandering its way around the hill.
The Golf links is spectacularly overlooking the water. Visitors to the links can relax and stay overnight in the luxurious Downings Coastguard Cottages, which lie next to the links.

With an electric heater in the lounge for those slightly chilly evenings and full oil-fired central heating for unseasonable or winter season cold snaps, the cottages are snug and cosy year-round.
