The Ballincollig Winter Music Festival
Get your dancing shoes on, the first music festivals of 2012 here in Ireland are going to take place this weekend! For all those of you who want to skip the Temple Bar Trad Fest in Dublin this year, we have the perfect suggestion: The Ballingcollig Winter Music Festival in Co. Cork! So come on down south to the Rebel County.
The 2012 Winter Music festival is the 3rd edition of its kind and will take place from Thursday January 26th to Sunday 29th. Music lovers will have a blast with a programme which features concerts, sessions, masterclasses, children’s events, story telling, festival clubs, a photo exhibition and plenty more.
Headline concerts take place at the White Horse in Ballincollig: Thursday 26th – Double bill with Paddy & Kevin Glackin; Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh & Brendan Begley; Friday 27th – Tim O’Brien & Arty McGlynn with special guests Aine Whelan & Johnny Scott; Saturday 28th – Paul Brady and Sunday 29th – Cathy Davey with special guests Jodavino.
You can see, there are going to be some high-profile musicians to check out: the Irish music legend Paul Brady, the award winning artist Cathy Davey, multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien who was awarded a Grammy for his work and many, many more.
As well as the gigs upstairs in The White Horse, there will be music classes for kids, sean nós dancing, free traditional Irish and bluegrass sessions and children’s storytelling events in other venues across the town.
Ballincollig is a lovely small town, only 8km west of Cork City, located directly on the River Lee.
